چکیده
Let A be a. matrix of m rows and n columns and let the entries of A be the integers 0 and 1. We call such a matrix a (0, 1) -matrix of size m by n. The 2 (0, 1)-matrices of size m by n play a fundamental role in a wide variety of combinatorial investigations. One of the chief reasons for this is the following. Let X be a set of n elements Xi, X2, • • • , xn and let Xi, X2, • • • , Xm be m subsets of X. Let dij= 1 if Xj is a member of Xi and let 0,7 = 0 if Xj is not a member of Xi. The a»/s yield a (0, 1)-matrix 4 = [a»y] of size w by w called the incidence matrix for the subsets Xi, X2, • • • , Xm of X. The l 's in row i oî A specify the elements that belong to set Xi and the l 's in column j of A specify the sets that contain element x3-. The matrix A characterizes the m subsets Xi, X2, • • • , Xm of the set X. Let A be a (0, 1)-matrix of size m by n. het the sum of row i of A be denoted by r» and let the sum of column j of 4̂ be denoted by Sj. We call

Binary Determinantal Complexity
We prove that for writing the 3 by 3 permanent polynomial as a determinant of a matrix consisting only of zeros, ones, and variables as entries, a 7 by 7 matrix is required. Our proof is computer based and uses the enumeration of bipartite graphs. Furthermore, we analyze sequences of polynomials that are determinants of polynomially sized matrices consisting only of zeros, ones, and variables. ...

Let U(n, T) be the set of ail matrices of O's and l's of order n with exactly r 0's. We obtain an upper bound for the permanent of a matrix in U(n, t). For 0 <r < 2n and for nz-2n C r < n2-n we determine all matrices in U(n, r) with maximum permanent.

We prove that there exist infinitely may values of the real parameter α for which the exact value of the spectral subradius of the set of two matrices (one matrix with ones above and on the diagonal and zeros elsewhere, and one matrix with α below and on the diagonal and zeros elsewhere, both matrices having two rows and two columns) cannot be calculated in a finite number of steps. Our proof u...

In this paper, vectors are column vectors. Unless otherwise specified, the norm of a matrix ‖M‖ is the Frobenius norm, defined by ‖M‖ = √∑ i,jM 2 ij . The all ones vector is denoted 1 and the all zeros vector is denoted 0. The all ones matrix is denoted J and the all zeros matrix is denoted O. The n× n identity matrix is denoted In, or simply I if its size is understood from context. The vector...

In this paper, we 2nd an expression of the rook vector of a matrix A (not necessarily square) in terms of permanents of some matrices associated with A, and obtain some simple exact formulas for the permanents of all n × n Toeplitz band matrices of zeros and ones whose bands are of width not less than n− 1. c © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V.
